The Wayback Project

We all keep acknowledging that it won't take much of an "act of God" to destabilize and possibly bring our entire system crashing to it's knees. The global political Jenga game is primed for sabotage - and there are people out there striving to push that button.
And we recognize now that individuals have lost the ancestral mindshare of how to survive and thrive as individuals and tribes. We imagine a dark age of chaos that ends in a hellscape for our descendants.
We're here now in this plastic bubble pseudo-utopia hoping we make it into a real utopia. We have the time and energy to explore and create and fulfill our every pleasure and fantasy, knowing there's a chance it descends into madness. So why don't we love our future enough to create a Way Back? We're in a state of delusional negligence to the future humans that might just be us all over again.
Powers are yanking at our masturbatory pleasures to keep us in a state of heightened hedonism while we all agree that we're miserable, and nobody is taking care of the baby in the nursery.
The Way Back Project would ensure that if the whole world goes to shit, our future children (or reincarnated selves) will be guided along a path to rebuilding this world into a better society than even we have today. We can look at what we are, think of where we wish we were, and imagine a path there from the nothingness our descendants might face. That's the true "colonizing spaceship" that humanity needs to save itself from an extinction event. Not across the stars on some other planet, but across the years on this one, our home that should still be good for a lesser portion of a billion years.
The Way Back shouldn't be a hermetically-sealed time capsule. Once developed, we may as well get started along that path, because it will be straighter than the one we're on now.
Rather than living in fear that our crystal palace that we're not quite happy with and don't really enjoy is going to crumble into an infinite abyss of desolation - Abodon - why don't we act as if it already has, and start rebuilding the world in the best way we now know it should have been?
I don't have the energy, money, or power to make a Way Back. But what I do have I give to you - the thought.
