Collection: Pomegranate

With leftover paint from another painting, I closed my eyes and asked the creator to guide my strokes. When I opened them, I saw a pomegranate.

When I moved into my house there were four trees in the backyard. A spider-mite infestation wiped them all out except for the pomegranate, which has thrived and produced 50-60 fruits per year.

Associated with Persephone and Hecate in Greek mythology, the pomegranate represents the strength of the divine feminine. A symbol of resurrection and life everlasting in Christian art, the pomegranate is often found in devotional statues and paintings of the Virgin and Child. In medieval representations the pomegranate tree, a fertility symbol, is associated with the end of a unicorn hunt.
