Diva

My mother passed away in 2024. When I finished painting “Butterfly” in her memory, I asked her to inspire another painting.  With my eyes closed, I randomly wiped the leftover paint onto an empty canvas.  When I looked, I saw this image in the strokes, so I filled in the rest.
My mom was a Diva for sure - she always talked about how she was prom queen, so the Marilyn Monroe painting made me laugh.  
I realized later when I looked at Marilyn Monroe's dress in this painting, it looks a lot like blue butterfly wings. A friend discovered that the doll face in “Butterfly” looks a lot like one of Marilyn Monroe’s baby photos.
My mother went through unspeakable trauma in her childhood, and while she could be a very controlling and difficult person, she was always smiling and kind and loving to everyone.
